OVER 350 people were in attendance at an event that aimed to bridge the gap between the older and younger generation whilst reigniting the community spirit in north London on April 13.

The attendees – who included rapper Akala, storyteller Alim Kamara, cultural consultant Andrew Muhammad and DJ and presenter Kat – at the Mind the Gap event at the Roundwood Youth Centre in Brent, managed to raise £250 for the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust.

There were performances on the day from Akala, rappers Change and Kenyetta Imara; poet Nathaniel; singers Gemstone and JVocals and actors from the Echo group.

Organised by Undiluted Expressionz, Love is Just a Verb, Action in the COmmunity, Brent Youth Support service and 40+ Male support group; the event was a success, according to many of the attendees.

"Mind the Gap is such a powerful concept. The bringing together of different generations through performing arts and undiluted conversations is necessary,” said one person.

Another declared: "Undiluted Expressionz have a gift of making it comfortable to have those difficult and gut wrenching conversations. I applaud their creativity and bravery.”

Another added: "I take my hat off to the Mind the Gap team for recreating a community spirit. Never had I been around so many strangers but felt at total ease."
